The Global Prize

It's about Excellence

Throughout history, people of African descent have made monumental contributions to the advancement of humanity — in science, technology, medicine, the arts, governance, education, innovation, peace-building and many more. Yet, too many of these achievements remain unrecognised, undocumented, or simply forgotten.

Despite countless stories of brilliance, courage, and innovation across Africa and its global diaspora, there has never been a truly global platform that honours the collective excellence of Afro-descendants on an international scale.

A look at results and of honourees published annually by some of the key prize-awarding bodies of international repute clearly show that people of African descent are considered as being insignificant to the world. This conscious or unconscious institutionalised injustice adds to the efforts in some quarters to erase memories of great achievers of African descent.

The Global Prize was born to redress this obvious injustice, by filling the void — to spotlight Black excellence, elevate inspiring role models, and ensure that the contributions of Afro-descendants are celebrated with the visibility, dignity, and permanence they deserve.

What The Global Prize will achieve

  • Recognise Excellence– Honour outstanding Afro-descendant individuals and groups in fields such as science, technology, education, arts, leadership, social impact, and more.
  • Document Legacy– Archive and elevate the stories of Black achievements and achievers for generations to come.
  • Inspire the Future– Motivate and empower young people across the Black world to reach new heights of excellence.
  • Build Global Solidarity– Strengthen a worldwide network of Afro-descendant change-makers, leaders, and supporters.
  • Create Opportunities– Support laureates and emerging innovators through visibility, funding, and mentorship.

A historic moment in a defining decade

The launch of this initiative aligns with the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015–2024), which has now entered its Second Decade beginning January 2025. This context makes the Global Prize not just timely, but urgent. It is part of a global call to action: to recognize justice, development, and the heritage of peoples of African descent.

Help us bring this vision to life

This is just the beginning. The Global Prize is a work-in-progress — a dynamic and evolving initiative that needs people like you to succeed. Whether you can give your time, resources, expertise, partnership, or funding, every contribution makes a difference.
We invite individuals, communities, institutions, corporations, and governments to join us in this historic endeavour. Together, we can build a future where Black excellence is celebrated and amplified — not just occasionally, but continually and globally.
