The Regions
Afro-descendants are everywhere!
While the African continent is the natural and historical home of Afro-descendants, and while there is the largest concentration of them on that continent, there are Afro-descendants on every continent, in every region, in every country and every corner of the world.
The African Union divides all these into 6 regions – five in Africa and one for the diaspora everywhere else on the planet.
The Global Prize adopts an eight-region zoning as a way of giving more attention to communities in diaspora that might otherwise be overlooked or marginalised
